昨日出会った魚は、柳の木の下の岸際10cmでライズしていました。5、6匹のニジマスがライズしているのを見ていると、1匹だけ口先を出してプチッと音を立ててライズしていました。
通りすぎた重さんを電話で呼び戻して、2度ライズを見てもらって、ライズの魚の正確な位置としっかり釣らなければならないサイズだということを確認。
フライを投げ込みにくい場所でしたが、3度も目のキャストでドンピシャのレーンに入り、ゆっくりとしたライズフォームでフライを吸い込んでくれました。フライは16番のフライングアントでした。
フライングアントの季節がようやく始まりました。2026年7月28、29、30の三日間がガイドのキャンセルが入ったので空きました。よろしくお願いいたします。^_^
Day two of the flying ant hatch.
Only those who spend their days searching for rising trout can truly understand how exciting a tiny winged ant can be. From July through September, it’s time to match wits with big trout, using flying ants as our greatest ally.
The fish I found yesterday was rising just 10 cm off the bank beneath an overhanging willow. As I watched five or six rainbow trout feeding, one fish stood out—it barely broke the surface with the tip of its mouth, making only a tiny “plip” sound as it sipped insects.
I called Shigeru back after he had already walked past so he could watch the rise twice himself. We confirmed the fish’s exact position and agreed it was the kind of trout that simply had to be caught.
It wasn’t an easy place to cast, but on the third attempt the fly landed perfectly in the feeding lane. The trout rose slowly and confidently, gently inhaling the fly. It took a size 16 Flying Ant pattern.
The flying ant season has finally begun.
