朱鞠内湖には、私が好きな景色と好きな時間があって、５月上旬のまだ雪の残る氷詰めのような世界から、季節は一気に進み、桜が咲き、シラカンバの新緑にエゾハルゼミの大合唱まで５月は一気に駆け抜けます。Lake Shumarinai is home to my favorite scenery and time. In early May, the lake is like an ice pack with snow still remaining, and the seasons progress rapidly, with cherry blossoms blooming, the new green leaves of Japanese white birch trees, and the chorus of Ezoharu cicadas. May passes by in a flash.
季節の進みは、気温と水温の上昇でイトウが釣れる時と場所が毎日少しづく変わってきます。イトウも日に日に賢くなって、手強い大きなイトウも続々と現れます。イトウとの知恵比べ、釣り人の技術が勝つか、イトウの賢さが勝つか、観察の毎日でした。As the season progresses, the time and place where you can catch huchen change slightly each day due to the rise in air and water temperature. The huchen get smarter every day, and formidable large huchen appear one after another. It was a daily battle of wits between the fishermen and the huchen, and we watched to see whether the fishermen's skills or the huchen's intelligence would win.
まだまだ初心者レベルの釣り人には、初心者レベルのイトウが釣れます。そして超ラッキーな釣りの神様が味方につくこともありました。エキスパートレベルの釣り人には、エキスパートのイトウが相手をしてくれました。難しさと悔しさ、うまくいった時の喜び、日替わりでやってくる毎日で刺激的な飽きの来ない毎日でした。Beginner-level anglers were able to catch beginner-level Ito. And sometimes the god of fishing was on their side. Expert-level anglers were matched up with expert Ito. Every day was exciting and never boring, with different fish every day, including difficulties and frustrations, and the joy of success.
５月上旬のイトウ釣りは、ワカサギが産卵のために岸に寄ってきて、それを狙って岸際に潜むイトウを狙う釣りがメインでした。今年は、気温が低く、水温の上昇もゆっくりだったので、例年通りの朱鞠内湖、イトウが釣れるのもゆっくりといいペースで釣れました。In early May, the main activity in Ito fishing was to catch Ito lurking on the shoreline, where smelt come to spawn. This year, the temperature was low and the water temperature rose slowly, so we were able to catch Ito at a slow pace, just like in previous years in Lake Shumarinai.
まだまだフライフィッシングは初心者というレベルの釣り人に大きなイトウがヒットしたり、昨年とても良い釣りをした釣り人は、今年はグンと冷えた気温にイトウもワカサギも沈んでしまい静かな釣りになったりと、そしてルアーでチャレンジした釣り人も面白い体験をすることができました。なによりも皆さん釣れてよかったです。An angler who is still a beginner at fly fishing caught a big huchen, an angler who had a great catch last year had a quiet fishing day as the huchen and smelt sank in the much cooler temperatures this year, and an angler who tried lure fishing had an interesting experience. 日本で一番最後に咲くという朱鞠内湖の桜。チシマザクラです。ようやく蕾が色づく頃、桜の花が満開。そして散るまでが朱鞠内湖の春のイトウ釣りのベストシーズンです。The cherry blossoms at Lake Shumarinai are the last to bloom in Japan. They are Chishimazakura. When the buds finally start to change color, the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. The best season for spring Ito fishing at Lake Shumarinai is when the cherry blossoms fall.
朱鞠内湖での出会いは、イトウ釣りが一番ですが、イトウを釣りしている間にたくさんの自然に出会うことができます。釣り人は魚に夢中になりますが、私は季節の変化をぼーっと楽しんでいます。アオサギが岸辺でワカサギを狙ったり。遠くでクマゲラのドラミングが聞こえたり。ポポ、ポポ、ポポ、、、、とツツドリの声に合わせてボートを操船したり。岸辺に咲く花々に彩を探して、ウドを探してキョロキョロ。イトウ探しをサボっていてもお客さんにはまったく気付かれません。The best thing to encounter at Lake Shumarinai is fishing for huchen, but you can also encounter a lot of nature while fishing for them. Anglers are obsessed with fish, but I enjoy watching the changing seasons. Grey herons prey on smelt on the shore. I can hear the drumming of black woodpeckers in the distance. I steer my boat to the sound of cuckoos singing "popo, popo, popo...". I search for color in the flowers blooming on the shore and look around for burdock. The anglers don't even notice if I slack off looking for huchen.
朱鞠内湖のイトウ釣りは、基本ボートで釣り人が来れないような場所を周りながイトウを見つけてフライを投げるサイトフィッシングの釣りと、いそうな場所をブラインドで探る釣りをします。
サイトフィッシングで大切なことは３つ。
１つめは、私が見つけたイトウが見えるか？
２つめは、見えたイトウの前に正確にフライを投げることができるか？
３つめは、イトウの目の前でフライを的確に動かすことができるか？
この３つがとても大切です。難しいですが、難しいからこそ、うまくいった時の気持ちよさというか、満足感が言葉では言い表せられないほどの、興奮とアドレナインが爆発します。
Fishing for hucho on Lake Shumarinai involves two types of fishing: sight fishing, where you go around areas that anglers cannot reach by boat to find hucho and cast a fly, and blind fishing, where you search for areas where they are likely to be.
There are three important things in sight fishing.
First, can I see the hucho that I have found?
Second, can I accurately cast the fly in front of the hucho that I see?
Third, can I move the fly accurately in front of the hucho?
These three things are very important. It's difficult, but it's precisely because it's difficult that when you succeed, the feeling of satisfaction is indescribable; it's an explosion of excitement and adrenaline.
イトウの目の前にフライを投げるので、フライは小さいものを使い、投げる距離も６mから１０m程度の距離を正確に投げる必要があるので、シングルハンドの6番か7番を使い、ラインはフローティングライン。イトウもなかなか頭がいいので、ティペットは０エックスか２エックスを使います。I use small flies because I need to cast the flies right in front of the hucho, and I need to cast accurately from about 6 to 10 meters, so I use a single-handed 6 or 7 and a floating line. The hucho are also quite smart, so I use a 0X or 2X tippet.
毎年四国からご夫婦で来られるm本様。夏の十勝の釣りも、春の朱鞠内湖の釣りも、奥様が釣るとご主人も釣って、2人仲良く？交代に、いつも一緒の方向を向いて、楽しむ様子はいつみてもいいなぁと思います。今回もありがとうございました。Mr. and Mrs. Mmoto come from Shikoku every year. そして、ご夫婦のあとは親子でフィッシング。父の背中を追うような息子の釣り。息子の釣りを楽しみ父の釣り。なんとも、言えない、言葉にしないコミュニケーションが、私の子供の頃、そして息子を育てる親としても、これまたなかなか味わい深いガイドでした。After the couple, father and son went fishing together. The indescribable, unspoken communication between the two was something I found fascinating as a child, and as a parent raising a son.

４年ぶりに朱鞠内湖に戻って来れたI田様。昔のグラスロッドを振りさばく姿は、素晴らしく。キャスティングのうまさは、今回のゲストの中ではピカイチのセンス。気持ちよくキャストしてくれるので、私も安心してみていれるのはありがたいことでした。ただスッポ抜けもなかなか見事で、慰めることさえできない時間もまた、今になっては楽しい思い出です。お誕生日おめでとうございました。素晴らしいキャスティング、素晴らしい魚にピンクミドロが飾ってくれました。また次回の釣りも楽しみです。Mr. Ida was able to return to Lake Shumarinai for the first time in four years.
